Current Group Members
Dr. Susmita Sett - Research Associate
(working with me and Kristen Dage)Susmita's work is focused on exploration of accreting compact objects in large surveys such as Vera Rubin Observatory's LSST. She has previously worked on large radio surveys of pulsars.
Tyrone O'Doherty - PhD Student & Forrest scholar
(Co-supervising with James Miller-Jones & Adelle Goodwin)Tyrone's research is focused on characerization of Galactic black holes and neutron stars using kinematic, astrometric and spectroscopic techniques.
Callan Wood - PhD Student & Forrest scholar
(Co-supervising with James Miller-Jones & Steven Tingay)Callan's research is focused on development of novel techniques for imaging black holes in Very Long Baseline Interferometry experiments.
Shih Ching Fu - PhD Student
(Co-supervising with Aloke Phatak)Shih Ching's research is focused on application of gaussian processes in characterization of astronomical transients and variables.
Ben Burridge - PhD Student
(Co-supervising with James Miller-Jones and Steve Prabu)Ben's research is focused on analysis of HI spectrum from radio-bright X-ray binaries as captured by the Square-Kilometre Array precursor telescope MeerKAT.
Angiraben Mahida - PhD Student
(Co-supervising with James Miller-Jones and Susmita Sett)Angira's research is focused on exploring the population of black holes and neutron stars in globular clusters.
Cobus Labuschagne - PhD Student
(Co-supervising with James Miller-Jones, Kristen Dage and Ilya Mandel)Cobus has just joined our group to work on formation and evolution of black holes in our Galaxy.
Natalie Langford - Physics Honours Student
(Co-supervising with James Miller-Jones)Natalie has been working on a newly found black hole candidate.
Serena Jones - Physics Undergraduate Student
(Co-supervising with James Miller-Jones)Serena has been looking into radio polarization in jets of accreting black holes.
Arlene Janse Van Rensburg - Actuarial Sciences Undergraduate Student
(Co-supervising with Aloke Phatak)Arlene has been working on application of data-intensive statistical techniques to search for black holes in high-volume and high through-put astronomical datasets.
Former Group Members
Jinguo (David) Xu - Graduate Intern (2023-2024)
(worked with me and Kristen Dage)David worked on fine-tuning large language models for analysis of unstructured astronomical datasets. He is now a research assistant at the ARC Centre for Maintenance.
Alessandro Paduano - PhD Student (2020-2023)
(Co-supervised with James Miller-Jones & Adela Kawka)Alessandro's research was focused on neutron stars and black holes in globular clusters. He is now a meteorologist at the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.
